THE VENUS PAPERS: LYDIA TOWSEY BOOK LAUNCH & SCOTT BRIDGWOOD EXHIBITION PREVIEW

SEPTEMBER 29TH, 7-9PM
ATTENBOROUGH ARTS CENTRE
LANCASTER ROAD, LEICESTER
FREE.

What if Venus, the Roman Goddess of love and beauty, washed up on a beach in the 21st century…?

You are cordially invited to ‘The Venus Papers’ – a book launch and exhibition preview with Lydia Towsey, Scott Bridgwood and David Dhonau.

‘The Venus Papers’ (Burning Eye Books, Sept 2015) relocates Botticelli’s Roman Goddess to a UK beach in the 21st century; how would she respond to what she might find – and what would she do next?

In the collection’s connecting poems, Venus’s progression from innocence to experience is mirrored across numerous arrivals, departures, journeys and landscapes; from a dancing mother to a psychopathic Barbie, murderous mozzarella and road trip across the Spanish Badlands.

By viewing Venus as everywoman, outsider, traveller and immigrant ‘The Venus Papers’ explores how women in particular are viewed and affected by cultural, political pressures in contemporary Britain and beyond…

A scored reading will be followed by the opportunity to explore brand new accompanying paintings by Scott Bridgwood – over soft drinks, Blue Nun and nibbles…

Attendance is free but booking advised. To do so, visit attenborougharts.com or call 0116 252 5455. Tickets will also be available on the door.

Supported by Everybody’s Reading and Attenborough Arts.
